Celebrity Skin is probably my second favorite Hole album (just behind Live Through This) but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad album by ANY means. It is pure 90s alternative rock.

Fun fact, the lead single of this album (also titled Celebrity Skin) was released on a CD together with the lead single of another album I’ve talked about on here; The Dope Show by Marilyn Manson. Funny enough, both Mechanical Animals and Celebrity Skin were influenced by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins (this one much more so than the other). Billy helped write a lot of the music for the songs, including the titular track (he also played bass on a few of the recordings). While 1994’s Live Through This felt like a pained love letter from Courtney Love to the recently deceased Kurt Cobain, this album feels more triumphant, almost as if she's saying “It’ll all be okay. Life goes on.”

I think it’s a great album to start with if you’re unfamiliar with Hole, it’s their most commercial sounding album, especially compared to 1991’s Pretty On The Inside, a heavy, noisy album that Kurt Cobain said “rocked even harder than we [Nirvana] ever have” about it. But I digress, Celebrity Skin is a great album that you should check out if you like 90s music. - Noah
